Organizational Commitment of Professional Nurses in Bangphae hospital, Ratchaburi Province

Abstract

     This descriptive research aimed to study; 1) level of the organizational commitment,  quality of work life and work stress of professional nurses and 2) relationship between quality of work life, work stress and organizational commitment of professional nurses in Bangphae hospital, Ratchaburi Province. The participants were 43 professional nurses. The research instruments were questionnaire of organizational commitment, quality of work life and work stress. The reliability of sub scale by  using  Cronbach's alpha coefficient were 0.78, 0.90 and 0.90 respectively. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics including percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson’s product-moment correlation. The results showed that:

           1. The overall mean score of organizational commitment was at high level (M=343,  SD=0.43) quality of work life was at moderate level (M= 3.27, SD=0.47) and work stress of professional nurses was at low level (M= 50, SD=0.47).

          2. The quality of work life was moderate significantly positively correlated with organizational commitment (r=.650, p<.01). The work stress was low significantly negatively correlated with organizational commitment (r=-.371, p<.05).

      Therefore, nursing administrators should organize activities to promote quality of work life for professional nurses to increase the organizational commitment. This will lead to the persistence of the profession and the development of an efficient nursing personnel management system.
