The Effects of Pre-operative Preparatory Program and Aromatherapy on Anxiety and Satisfaction of Outpatients Surgery, Samutsakhon Hospital

The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to investigate the effects of pre-operative preparatory of outpatients surgery on anxiety, satisfaction and knowlege of Outpatients Surgery. The samples were the outpatients surgery with sebaceous cyst, divided into 2 groups: experimental and control groups contained 26 subjects. The data were collected using 4-part questionnaires: 1) demographic data, 2) anxiety before operation, 3) satisfaction on pre-operative preparatory program, and 4) knowledge of outpatients surgery. The reliability of questionnaires approached by Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient were 0.82 and 0.80, respectively, and knowledge approached by KR. 20 was 0.87. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and t-test. The results revealed as follows:
1. After program pre-operative preparatory of outpatients surgery and aromatherapy the mean score on anxiety among the experimental group were statistically significantly lower than the control group (p <.001).
2. The satisfaction on pre-operative preparatory program and knowledge were statistically significantly higher than the control group (p <.001).
In conclusion, the pre-operative preparatory program and aromatherapy was effectiveness for reducing anxiety, increasing satisfaction and knowledge of outpatients surgery.
