Factors Related to Quality of Life for the Elderly in Bang Khonthi District Samut Songkhram Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) study the quality of life among the elderly in terms of physical, mental, social, and environmental aspects, 2) study internal and external factors that related to the quality of life among the elderly. The data were collected by using questionnaire through 382 samples from a group of socially addicted elderly who can communicate and resided in Bang Khonthi District. The data were then analyzed for finding descriptive statistics such as mean, percentage, standard deviation. The hypothesis was tested by Chi-square and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results revealed that

1. The quality of life among the elderly was at fair level (M= 2.06, SD=0.45). The highest average was the mental aspect was at a good level (M = 67, SD = 0.49).

2. The internal factor, mental aspect (r=.686, p<.000), and physical aspect (r= .645, p<.000) had statistically significantly moderate relationship with quality of life among the elderly at the .001 level. The external factors, structural support (r=.151, p<.000) had statistically significantly low relationship with the quality of life among the elderly at the .05 level.

The health personnel and stakeholders can use it as a basis for strategic planning it drives direct policies to prepare for changes in the aging society efficiently and align with their needs in order to live with quality of life and human dignity.
