Abstract

The purposes of this study were to 1) determine the nursing care of patient with calcified coronary artery disease after rotablator and stent placement, and 2) Using the results of the study to develop nursing task of the cardiac catheterization unit to be more efficiency. A case study was a patient with severe coronary artery disease due to large amounts of calcification in the right coronary artery. The physician treated him by angioplasty with a balloon and made another appointment to remove the calcium and fatty plaques with rotablator and stent placement. Nursing care of patient  was so complex and requires the application of theoretical concepts with the 5-step nursing process; assessment,  nursing diagnosis, nursing planning, nursing implement, and evaluation including  promoting knowledge and understanding of self-care for patients and their families, behavior modification, and continual follow-up to prevent a recurrence that leads to ischemic heart disease.

Therefore, nursing care of patient with calcified coronary artery disease should focus on promoting knowledge and understanding about the cause, disease progression, and prevention including advice on risk assessment and modification of health behaviors that are appropriate for both patients and their relatives in order to be able to self-care and observe signs and symptoms that require immediate treatment at the hospital that will reduce the rate of death and disability.
