Abstract

The purposes of this research and development study were to 1) develop a nursing service system for patients undergoing one-day surgery, 2) determine the effectiveness of the nursing service system according to the guideline for caring for patients  undergoing one-day surgery at the network hospitals, Ratchaburi Province. The sample consisted of 14 professional nurses and 224 patients undergoing one-day surgery. The research instruments consisted of  1) the guideline for caring for patients  undergoing one-day surgery, 2) a questionnaire on the appropriateness of the guideline for caring for patients undergoing one-day surgery, 3) the patients satisfaction questionnaire, and 4) a record form of care outcomes. The data were then  analyzed for finding percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The study results were as follows:

1. The average score of the appropriateness of the guideline for caring for patients undergoing one-day surgery at the network hospital was at the high level.

2. The average  score of service satisfaction was at the most level.

3. The surgical pain outcome or pain from the operation of the experimental group was statistically significantly lower than that of the control group.

Therefore, the care of patients undergoing one-day surgery should be prepared before receiving the examination and follow-up of the treatment results from the network hospitals in order to maximize the benefits such as convenience in treatment, cost reduction, and travel time reduction for patients.
