This mixed method research aimed to study 1) level of perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and perceived self-efficacy and 2) the association between perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and perceived self-efficacy and preventive behaviors of stroke. The samples consisted of 160 patients with hypertension and were selected by simple random sampling. Research instrument were questionnaire of perceived of health belief model and questionnaire of preventive behaviors of stroke. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation. The results showed that
1. The overall mean scores on perceived of health belief model and preventive behaviors of stroke were at the high level (M=3.80, SD= 0.27; M=3.70, SD= 0.28 respectively).
2. The perceived self-efficacy was significantly negatively correlated with preventive behaviors of stroke (r=-.531, p< 0.01), and perceived barriers for preventive of stroke was significantly positively correlated with preventive behaviors of stroke (r = .275, p< 0.01).
Therefore, the promotion for preventive behaviors of stroke should promote self-efficacy to build confidence and lead to the further of behavior change.
