Abstract

The purpose of this study was to study nursing care for elderly patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with bladder cancer who receiving cystostomy with felt tired and dizziness in the community by using Orem’s nursing theory. Selecting 1 case study who had health problems from inappropriate behavior. The nurses have an important role in patient care by using the 5-step nursing process: assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation and apply Orem's nursing theory. The nursing diagnosis consists of 5 items: 1) having malnutrition due to gastric distension and eating less food, 2) lacking of knowledge in self care to be appropriate for disease at hand, 3) risk for oxygen depletion due to poor performance in gas exchange of the lungs, 4) risk of accidents due to decreased ability to self care of one's own health, 5) there is a chance of urinary tract infection due to decreased ability to take care of oneself and 6) anxiety about an illness that cannot be cured.

Therefore, nursing this patient focus on promoting knowledge about health care, modifying behavior and encouraging family members to participate in patient care. Including coordinating a multidisciplinary team to follow up with home visits to monitor behavioral adjustments that will help improve disease progression.
