Factors Related to Risk Falls for the Elderly Using the Time Up and Go Test (TUGT) Method

The purpose of this descriptive research were to 1) assessed the risk of fall for the elderly and 2) study of factors related to the risk of falls for the elderly using the Time Up and Go Test method. The data were collected by using questionnaire and Time Up and Go Test method testing through 83 samples from elderly aged 60 and older. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Chi-square and Fisher’s exact test with 95% confidence level. The results showed that 1. The elderly 60–74 aged years old were high risk of fall (53.01%) more than the elderly 75 aged years and older (8.43%). The female were high risk of fall more than male.
2. The Personal factors include age and common factors include Trouble getting out of bed , dress and height of the heel shoes were significantly related to risk of falls with time up and go test (TUGT) (p < .05).
Therefore, the public health agency should assess the risk of fall for the elderly using Time Up and Go Test and have program to promote knowledge of fall protection, exercise for muscles strength and recommended to wear shoes. The height of the heel is not very high among elderly.
