Factors Affecting Glycemic Control Behavior among Older Adults Patients with Diabetes Mellitus in Sam Roi Yod Hospital, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

This descriptive research aims to study 1) the level of glycemic control behavior, health literacy, health communication and social support of older adults patients with diabetes mellitus in Sam Roi Yod Hospital, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.The sample group consisted of 119 older adults with diabetes. The research instrument was a questionnaire on factors affecting glycemic control behavior. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation and inferential statistics, including multiple regression analysis. The results found that:
1. Glycemic control behavior, health literacy, health communication and socialsupport mean scores were at a moderate level (M = 3.21, SD = 0.64; M = 2.81, SD = 0.55; M= 3.34, SD = 0.51; M = 3.13, SD = 0.42).
2. The health communication is the highest factor affecting to glycemic control Behavior (beta = .648, p< .01), followed by social support (beta = .572, p<.05) and health literacy (beta= .487, p< .05), respectively. The 3 Variables can statistically significantly predict glycemic control behavior at 60.20% (R2adj = .602 , p<.01.)
Therefore, modifying health behaviors to glycemic control behavior in the older adults. The registered nurse should be consider health communication as important together with promoting social support and literacy health to increase the tendency to change behavior to glycemic control in an appropriate way.
