Abstract

This systematic review aimed to summarize the evidence related to weaning protocol from mechanical ventilation among critically medical patients. Using the Joanna Briggs Institute's systematic review approach. Eight A total of 8 studies passed the selection criteria. The research instruments were an appraisal form and data extract form. Narrative summarization were used to describe characteristics of weaning protocol. The results of the systematic review found that:

Weaning from a ventilator is divided into 3 stages: 1) Pre weaning phase presents the issue of assessing physical and mental readiness before weaning off ventilator, selecting a ventilator weaning scheme appropriate to the patient's condition, family support will help increase successful weaning from ventilators. 2) Weaning phase the most weaning from ventilator was a gradual weaning by patient spontaneous breathing trail with the O2 T-piece or with the CPAP mode, PEEP ≤ 5-8 cmH2O and then evaluating according to the criteria, and 3) Weaning outcome phase considering the force of cough, the requires sputum suctioning no more than 2 times in 2 hours, cuff leak test positive and lung auscultation no wheezing sound to monitor for re-intubation in 48 hours.

Using weaning protocol from mechanical ventilation among critically medical patients all specified steps for weaning from a ventilator must be followed so promote weaning form ventilator success and interdisciplinary cooperation, support from family increase the success of weaning from ventilators.
