Abstract

This research and development initiative aims to analyze the current situation, develop a model, and evaluate the outcomes of implementing a nursing care model for patients with sepsis at Krabi Hospital. The study was conducted in three phases: situational analysis, model development, and evaluation. The sample groups included 6 nursing administrators, 104 healthcare providers, and 122 service users. Data were collected using in-depth interviews, nursing practice assessment forms, supervision assessment forms completed by head nurses and ward managers, and satisfaction assessment forms regarding the model's implementation. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and one-way ANCOVA with repeated measures. The study findings revealed that

The nursing care model for patients with sepsis comprises several key components: patient assessment, management of distressing symptoms, safety care, prevention of complications, continuous patient care, support for self-healthcare, enhancement of nurse satisfaction, and nursing supervision by head nurses and ward managers. The supervision outcomes were rated as excellent  (M=4.47, SD=0.38 and M=4.49, SD=0.49, respectively).  Nurses demonstrated increased knowledge and improved nursing practices. The percentage of patients screened for sepsis increased from 71.60% to 91.95%, the recovery rate improved from 69.90% to 74.60%, the average length of hospital stay decreased from 13.83 days to 10.19 days, and the mortality rate decreased from 29.86% to 25.40%.

Therefore, nursing administrators should implement the developed model in nursing supervision to enhance the efficiency of nursing care for patients with sepsis.
