Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effects of preparation on knowledge and practical skills
in the Midwifery Practicum I course at North Bangkok University. The purposive sample consisted of 32 third-year nursing students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing Science program who underwent preparation and practical training in antenatal and postnatal care units. The preparation process before the Midwifery Practicum I was guided by the nursing process theory, which includes five steps: 1) assessment, 2) diagnosis, 3) planning, 4) intervention, 5) evaluation.
The research instruments consisted of: A personal information questionnaire, knowledge and skills assessment forms for Midwifery Practicum I, and A satisfaction questionnaire, all of which were validated for language and content consistency by experts. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests. The results showed that:
- The mean scores for knowledge and skills after preparation were significantly higher than
before preparation at p < 0.05.
- The mean scores after practical training were higher than after preparation but not
statistically significant at p = 0.05.
- The mean satisfaction level of students regarding the preparation process was high (4.40),
with the most favored activities being history-taking, antenatal examination, and newborn care.In conclusion, preparation prior to practical training effectively enhanced the students' knowledge, skills, and confidence.
