Abstract

The research and development project aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a nursing supervision model to prevent falls among the elderly patients at Damnoen Saduak Hospital by three-phase research process. The sample groups included 12 supervisors, 36 supervisees and 200 service recipients. The research tools included nursing supervision models, knowledge assessment forms, supervision practice assessment forms, feasibility assessment forms, satisfaction assessment forms for  supervisors group, and knowledge assessment forms, nursing practice assessment forms, and satisfaction assessment forms for the supervisee group. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test. The results showed that,

1. Model of the development were the PORN SAFE Model, which consisted of planning, orientation, reinforcement of skills, norm setting, surveillance, and assessment, feedback, and engagement.

2. Clinical results, after implementing the model, supervisors and supervisees reported high satisfaction levels. A comparison of practices before and after using the model revealed a statistically significant improvement in average scores at the .01 level. Patients who did not receive care under the model experienced fall incidents and had higher severity levels compared to those who were cared for under the model.

Therefore, an effective nursing supervision model for preventing falls in elderly patients should focus on enhancing the knowledge and skills of service providers and promoting family involvement in patient care.
