Abstract

This research and development initiative aims to study the problem, develop a system and evaluate the use of the patient classification system at Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital.  The study was conducted in four phases: which were 1) Study and analysis of the inpatient classification situation 2) Development of an inpatient classification system. 3) Implementation of the inpatient classification system in the ward and 4) Evaluation of the results of the development of the inpatient classification system. The sample groups included 11 inpatient ward heads, 72 registered nurses in the inpatient wards, and 865 inpatient medical records. Data were collected using opinion survey, interview form, inpatient classification medical record examination form, and the classification of patient audit record form. Qualitative data analysis by content grouping, the results were compared before and after development using Chi-Square test statistics. The results found that:

The research results obtained a computerized inpatient classification system (HOSxP). After using the developed inpatient classification system, nurses were able to correctly classify inpatients significantly (p< 0.001), nurse note and bed management are consistent with patient classification, appropriate nursing staffing.

Therefore, the developed computerized inpatient classification system (HOSxP) should be utilized to improve the quality of inpatient classification.
