Effectiveness of the SmartCare SmartKid Program for Development Promoting for Preschool Children with Suspected Developmental Delay in Kalasin Province

This quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest study aimed to examine the effects of the SmartCare SmartKid Program on caregivers' child-development-promoting behaviors and on the development of preschool children with suspected developmental delay. The sample consisted of 64 caregiver-child dyads with suspected developmental delay in Kalasin Province, divided into an experimental group and a comparison group, 32 dyads each, selected through stratified random sampling. The research instrument was the SmartCare SmartKid Program for promoting development among preschool children with suspected developmental delay, a 6-week intervention. Data collection instruments included a questionnaire on caregivers' preschool child-development-promoting behaviors and a preschool child development assessment form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, McNemar’s test, Fisher's exact test, and t-test. The results showed that:
Following program participation, caregivers of preschool children in the experimental group demonstrated significantly better child-development-promoting behaviors, both overall and in each domain, than before participation (t = -25.687, p < .001) and then the comparison group (t = 14.407, p < .001). Following program participation, preschool children in the experimental group also had a significantly greater proportion of normal development overall across all five domains than before participation, at the .01 level. However, when compared with the comparison group, the experimental group showed a significantly greater proportion of normal development in four domains, with the exception of the gross motor domain, which did not differ significantly.
