Effects of Mechanical Ventilator Weaning Protocol Driven by Multidisciplinary Team on Weaning Success in Patients with Endotracheal tube
Keywords:
ventilator weaning patient with endotracheal tube mechanical ventilator weaning protocolAbstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to evaluate the effect of mechanical ventilator weaning protocol driven by multidisciplinary team among patients with endotracheal tube admit in intensive care unit ward, Prachomklao hospital, Phetchaburi province. The patient samples consisted of sixty respiratory failure patients who were on mechanical ventilator. Purposive sampling technique was used to recruit the samples, and they were divided into 2 groups: an experimental group and a control group, 30 people each. Research instruments consisted of mechanical ventilator weaning protocol driven by multidisciplinary team, and a record of mechanical ventilator weaning, which its content validity were investigated by five experts (Item of congruence 0.80-1.00). The experiment was conducted and data were collected between April 2021 and February 2022.The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics: mean, median, and Mann-Whitney U test.
The results showed that:
- The duration of using endotracheal tube and mechanical ventilator, it was found that the multidisciplinary weaned group had less than the conventional ventilator weaned group at a statistically significant level .05.
- The duration of weaning from mechanical ventilation, it was found that the multidisciplinary weaning group had less time than the conventional mechanical ventilation group at a statistically significant level .05.
- Number of reintubated patients, it was found that the number of reintubations in the multidisciplinary weaned group was not different from the conventional mechanical ventilation group at a significant level .05.
These findings suggest that using mechanical ventilator weaning protocol driven by multidisciplinary team can increase weaning success rate for respiratory failure patients.
