The development of multimedia electronic book (E-book) on basic 7 principles of newborn care for nursing students

This research project aims to develop a multimedia electronic book (e-book) titled “Basic 7 Principles of Newborn Care for Nursing Students”. The samples included 43 third-year nursing students attending in the first semester of 2021 at Boromarajonani College of Nursing Buddhachinaraj. The research tools included: 1) an e-book titled 'Basic 7 Principles of Newborn Care for Nursing Students'; 2) pre-, during-, and post-tests, all evaluated with a content validity index ranging from 0.80 to 1.00 and confidence values obtained using the Kuder-Richardson KR-20 formula, resulting in values of 0.71, 0.73, and 0.71, respectively; and 3) a questionnaire assessing satisfaction with the multimedia electronic book, which achieved a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.88. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test statistics.
The results of the study revealed that: 1) the efficiency of the e-book titled 'Basic 7 Principles of Newborn Care for Nursing Students' was 99.22/85.52; 2) the knowledge scores on the post-tests (M=29.93, SD=3.48) were statistically significantly higher than those on the pre-tests (M=16.90, SD=3.04) at p < .001; and 3) students were highly satisfied with the e-book titled 'Basic 7 Principles of Newborn Care for Nursing Students' (M=4.66, SD=0.41).
The study recommended that the e-book titled 'Basic 7 Principles of Newborn Care for Nursing Students' be used to teach nursing students in the subject of pediatric and adolescent nursing to enhance learning.
