Perspectives of caregivers for stroke patients during the transition period from hospital to home

This qualitative descriptive study aimed to understand the perspectives of professional nurses and caregivers regarding the care of stroke patients during the transition from hospital to home. The informants were six professional nurses and nine caregivers who were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. From the results, the informants reflected their perspectives on the situation, problems, and needs of caregivers of stroke patients during the transition period from hospital to home in three themes: 1) caring for stroke patients during the transition period, 2) problems and barriers in care during the transition period, and 3) support for stroke patient care during the transition period. In conclusion, the findings are useful for those who are facing obstacles in caring for stroke patients during the transition from hospital to home and those involved in providing services to stroke patients. The findings offer insights into stroke patient care during the transition from hospital to home to guide the development of stroke care guidelines for the caregivers of stroke patients during this transition.
