Abstract

This systematic review aims to synthesize research and examine the outcomes of care approaches for Patients with Chronic Diseases and Depression. The review includes research reports published between 2013 and 2023, following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI, 2011) review process. The search identified 30 studies related to care approaches for patients with depression in chronic disease groups based on specified keywords. Of these, 22 studies met the selection criteria using a research report screening tool, while 14 studies were excluded as they did not discuss care approaches or methods for managing depression in chronic disease patients. Ultimately, 8 quasi-experimental studies met the selection criteria for review. The researcher conducted a content-based analysis to summarize the findings.

The results of the Heath Care Guideline for Patients with Chronic Diseases and Depression that 1) Cognitive behavioral therapy 2) Stress relaxation and problem-solving skills training, and 3) Buddhist-integrated care help patients gain comprehensive and appropriate self-care knowledge. These approaches contribute to reducing depressive symptoms in chronic disease patients and improving their quality of life. Based on these results, it is recommended to provide Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), stress relaxation and problem-solving skills training, and Buddhist-integrated care as a model for managing patients with chronic diseases who are at risk of developing depression. These approaches can help prevent the onset of depression and provide patients with appropriate knowledge for self-care in mental health
