Sunscreen
Keywords:
sunscreen, ultraviolet light, UV, SPF, PAAbstract
Ancient Egyptians used extracts of rice, jasmine, and lupine plants to protect themselves from the sun. Acidified quinine sulfate was documented as sunscreen since 1889 but enormous progress of sunscreen development started in the year 2000. Nowadays, numerous broad spectrum and high efficacy sunscreens were discovered. New method to evaluate sunscreen efficacy was also introduced after sun protective factor (SPF) which measure sunscreen efficacy to protect sunburn which responsible mainly by UVB. On the contrary, UVA protection system isn’t universal acceptable in all countries. In Japan, Protection Grade of UVA or PA system with 4 levels was used since January 2013. In Europeans country or EU the symbol of means that UVA protection isn’t less than 1/3 of SPF. New method to evaluate sunscreen will be developing continual because sunscreen is not only intended to protect people from sunburn but also from tanning, melasma, photoaging and skin cancer.
