Congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN)
Keywords:
congenital melanocytic nevi, melanoma, neurocutaneous melanosisAbstract
Congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) are presented at birth. CMN are divided into small (< 1.5 cm), medium (1.5-20 cm) and large (>20 cm) by size of lesion. CMN are associated with benign and malignant tumor either cutaneous or extracutaneous e.g. nervous system (Neurocutaneous melanosis : NCM) especially large CMN. The most common association of malignant tumor is melanoma.Management of congenital melanocytic nevi are complex especially large CMN. The most important factors are risk of melanoma, cosmetic concern and psychosocial factor.
Conclusion : The decision for management CMN must discuss with the parent and child. Risk of melanoma and neurocutaneous melanosis must always be concern although treated CMN.
