ํThe effectiveness of an educational and practice program on preventing respiratory tract infection for parents and elementary school students

Abstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effectiveness of an educational and practice program on preventing respiratory tract infection for parents and elementary school students. The sample of 140 parents and elementary students was purposively selected, consisting of 5th-grade students and their parents from Demonstration School of Innovation, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. They were equally divided into an experimental group and a control group with 35 participants in each group of parents and elementary school students. The research instruments consisted of: 1) the educational and practice program for parents and students, 2) a questionnaire on students’ knowledge and self-practice in preventing respiratory tract infection, and 3) a questionnaire on parents’ knowledge and self-practice on caring for their children in preventing respiratory tract infection. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The results revealed that after the experiment, elementary school students in the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores of knowledge and self-practice in preventing respiratory tract infection than before the experiment and higher than those in the control group at p < .05. Parents in the experimental group also had significantly higher mean scores of knowledge and self-practice on caring for their children in preventing respiratory tract infection than before the experiment and higher than those in the control group at p < .05.
