Nurses‘ roles in caring for elderly people with dementia and the caregivers.

Dementia is mostly found in the elderly throughout the world. Person with dementia will be losing the ability of the brain to functioning including language, thinking and learning, memory, emotional, intellectual knowledge and judgment, some patients had behavior and personality changes and/or psychological symptoms. These will affect to the ability to perform everyday activities. The pathological conditions of dementia inhibit person with dementia from taking complete care of themselves and make them require the care from others. Family are important source of home care and support for person with dementia. As a result of caring person with dementia, family caregivers may experience life change that would be expected to be stress. Therefore, nurses are well positioned to play important role in taking care of family caregivers such as sharing knowledge, giving advise, relieving burden and stigma as well as strengthening their coping.
