Abstract

The most common of supernumerary teeth in paediatric dentistry is mesiodens, which is presented between midline of left and right central incisors. The prevalent rate is twice in males  than females. Mesiodens can cause dental complications such as disturbances in tooth eruption malposition malocclusion and spacing between central incisors. Diagnosis of mesiodens is based on clinical and radiographic examination. Treatment of choice is extraction, which can be devided as two methods of  ; early tooth extraction before root of permanent central incisors is completely formed, and late tooth extraction after root of permanent central incisors is completely formed. Each method has advantages and disadvantages. The objective of this article is to review on management of mesiodens, so dentists can choose the appropriate method to prevent the dental complications and development of consequence problems.
