ฟันกรามล่างซี่ที่ 2 คุด

โดยปกติฟันน้ำนมและฟันแท้จะมีช่วงเวลาและลำดับการขึ้นมาในช่องปากต่างๆกัน ลำดับการขึ้นของฟันในช่องปากแสดงตามภาพที่ 1 ทั้งนี้ช่วงอายุในการขึ้นของฟันอาจมีการคลาดเคลื่อนจากอายุเฉลี่ยได้บ้าง ฟันน้ำนมจะเป็นตัวนำทางให้ฟันแท้ขึ้นในตำแหน่งที่ถูกต้องนอกจากฟันกรามแท้ซี่ที่ 2 และ 3 ซึ่งจะไม่ต้องทดแทนฟันน้ำนม โดยรากฟันน้ำนมจะมีการละลายตัวร่วมกับมีแรงดันจากฟันแท้ที่กำลังจะขึ้น ดังตัวอย่างแสดงภาพรังสีในภาพที่ 2 แต่ถ้าเราไม่พบฟันซี่ใดขึ้นมาในช่องปากในช่วงเวลาดังกล่าว สาเหตุอาจเกิดได้จากการไม่มีการสร้างฟันซี่นั้นหรือเกิดจากฟันซี่นั้นเป็นฟันคุดที่ไม่สามารถขึ้นมาได้ อย่างไรก็ตามแม้บางคนมีฟันขึ้นครบจำนวนตามเวลาเราก็อาจจะพบฟันคุดที่เกิดจากฟันเกินได้เช่นกัน ดังนั้นการตรวจสุขภาพช่องปากและภาพทางรังสีจึงเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นเพื่อการตรวจคัดกรองพยาธิสภาพอื่นๆและฟันคุดที่อาจจะมีอยู่โดยไม่แสดงอาการได้
