Evaluation of oral health promotion and dental caries prevention in well child clinic, Erawan District, Loei Province, during 2010-2013.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of oral health promotion and dental caries prevention in 9-12 month-old 147 children in 9 well child clinics, Erawan District, Loei Province during 2010-2013. Subjects were examined oral health status and applied fluoride varnish for 4 times each at 9-12, 18, 24 and 30 months old. Parents were given the oral health education and practiced how to brush children’ teeth then interviewed dental care behaviors for their children at the beginning and the end of the study. Statistical analysis were expressed for descriptive and chi-square. Results showed that the comparison of dental care behaviors for their children between the beginning and the end of the study were significantly different. At the beginning of the study, children were expressed no apparent tooth cavity but dental caries developed progressively by age. Dental caries in children at 18 , 24 , 30 and 36 months old were respectively illustrated as the percentage of children got dental caries were 6.8 , 16.3 , 47.6 and 52.4 , dmfs were 0.18 , 0.70 , 2.81 and 5.68 , and dmft were 0.14 , 0.48 , 2.05 and 3.62.
