Compare caries prevalence and related oral health behaviors among Thai Children Aged 1-4 years between 2006 and 2011

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare dental caries prevalence and related oral health behaviors among Thai Children Aged 1- 4 years between 2006 and 2011. Two cross-sectional studie were carried out by a sample of 4,814 and 4,206 children with their caregivers from 250 MOPH hospitals and child centers in 20 provinces across the country in 2006 and 2011.  Children’s caregivers were interviewed and children’s oral status were examined by the hospital dental personnel.  Data analysis was performed with Chi–square test. Children ’s caries prevalence were found 46.0 % in 2006 and decreased to 43.6 in 2011. The oral health promotion behaviors which increasined from 2006 to 2011 were regular tooth brushing and fluoride vanish service utilization. The behaviors which decreased were carbonated beverage consumption and plain milk consumption. The risk behaviors which increased were consumption of sugary foods. Consuming snacks and beverage more than 2 items per day increased when children were older.
