Oral Health-Related Quality of Life of Older People in Chachoengsao district.

Abstract
This study's objective were to assess and compare oral health - related quality of life (OHRQOL), perceived needs and normative needs in a group of Thai elderly people. Data were collected through oral examinations to assess normative denture needs, and interveiwed to assess OHRQOL and preceived denture needs. The Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (OIDP) index was used to assess OHRQOL. Samples were 219 elderly people during January to March 2007. Severity and frequency scores of oral impacts were recorded, and impacts scores were later calculated. 85.6% of elderly people had normative denture needs. Eating, smiling and speaking performances had high impacts especially in edentulous arch and missing both sides of posterior teeth group. 52.96% of people had perceived denture needs. In this group 13.8% had no impacts and 27.2% had impacts but no perceived denture needs. 32.7% of normative denture needs did not have oral impacts/perceived needs. OHRQOL / perceived needs in order to assess health and planning dental service for well-being and quality of life of elderly people.
