A Comparative Clinical Evaluation of Three Toothbrushes: Systema ® , Reach Tooth&Gum Care and the Department of Health's Toothbrush.

Abstract
The study was conducted to compare the plaque removal effectiveness of three toothbrushes: Systema® with soft and slim bristle, Reach with microfilament bristle, and the Department of Health's Toothbrush with round ended bristle. Ninety nurse students having good oral health were randomly divided into three groups. Each studied group practiced their tooth brushing with the assigned toothbrushes twice a day for 30 days. Oral examination for gingival irritation, PHP score and GI was conducted by dentists on day 1, 15 and 30 consecutively. It was found that the three studied toothbrushes were not harmful to gingiva and oral tissue at any time of the toothbrushes evaluated. The three toothbrushes tested were significantly effective in reducing plaque and gingivitis (p < 0.05). Differences in plaque removal efficacy of the three toothbrushes were not statistically significant.
