ในยุคปัจจุบันที่เทคโนโลยีของเครื่องมือมีความเจริญก้าวหน้ามากขึ้น ทำให้มีการศึกษาเรียนรู้ลักษณะของ posterior cornea อย่างกว้างขวาง บทความฉบับนี้กล่าวถึงการศึกษาลักษณะของ posterior corneal astigmatism ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่กำลังเข้ามามีบทบาทต่อการทำงานของจักษุแพทย์มากขึ้น และการนำองค์ความรู้ในเรื่อง posterior corneal astigmatism มาประยุกต์ใช้ในทางคลินิก โดยเฉพาะในการคำนวณเลนส์แก้วตาเทียมชนิดแก้ไขสายตาเอียง แสดงให้เห็นว่าการคำนึงถึง posterior corneal astigmatism จะทำให้สามารถคำนวณ toric intraocular lens ได้แม่นยำมากยิ่งขึ้น และสามารถลด post-operative refractive error ได้ บทความนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อผู้อ่านได้รู้จักและตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของ posterior corneal astigmatism เพื่อสามารถนำความรู้ไปพัฒนาการดูแลผู้ป่วยต่อไป
