Development of Field Hospital Management System Khon Kaen Province Under the Epidemic Situation of the Coronavirus Disease 2019

Abstract

This action research aims to develop the management system of the field hospital in Khon Kaen province under the situation of Coronavirus Disease 2019. The study population includes 1) The 35 management committees of the field hospital. 2) The 360 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 stayed in the field hospital from March 2021 to March 2022. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a tool to compare the differences before and after the model development by Paired Samples t-test. Content analysis was utilized to analyze qualitative data. The results depicted no former management system of the field hospital in Khon Kaen since the outbreak of COVID-19 is unprecedented. The system development approach consists of 4 components: 1) Public health guidelines are used for constructing the system structure and adapting to the local context 2) The development process focuses on personnel and equipment from major hospitals and chooses a suitable location with the approval of the provincial communicable disease control committee, 3) Organizing the service system with participation in the preparation of the action plan, 4) Monitoring and Evaluation in order to improve the participation for efficiency. In terms of the comparison between before and after average satisfaction and impact from the development of the management system of COVID-19 patients, the participation of the field hospital management committee, working groups, and related networks, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference (P-Value = 0.001). Therefore, it can be concluded that the developed management system resulting in participatory work produces good results for both service users and service providers, the field hospital development team, and the communities involved in the operation.
