The Effect of Digital Information and Psychological Support Program on Anxiety of Mothers with Critically Ill Preterm Infants
Main Article Content
Abstract
Purpose: To study the effects of digital information and psychological support programs on the anxiety of mothers with critically ill preterm infants.
Design: Two-group pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental study.
Methods: The study sample comprised 56 mothers of critically ill preterm infants admitted at the neonatal intensive care unit at Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital, Bangkok. The sample was selected by convenience sampling based on the inclusion criteria, and divided into the experimental and the control groups with 28 equally of each group. The control group received routine nursing care, while the experimental group received the information and psychological support program through video, LINE application, and LINE video calls. Data were collected using demographic data record forms and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon signed - ranks test.
Main findings: The results revealed that after completing the program the mothers in the experimental group had decreased anxiety score significantly (Z = - 4.60, p < .001), and had a significantly lower anxiety score than those in the control group (Z = -5.90, p < .001).
Conclusion and recommendations: Providing information and psychological support through digital media could decrease the anxiety of mothers with critically ill preterm infants. Therefore, the program should be implemented for the mothers to further improve quality of care.
