Abstract

The relationship between fetal abdominal circumference (AC) and men strual age was determined from 14 to 40 weeks of gestation by analysis of 1193 measurements examined with linear array real-time ultrasound scanner. Mathemati cal modeling of the data demonstrated that the linear quadratic function was opti mal model (r=0.96). The correlation was formulated, AC = -8.89584 + 1.268717 (GA) - 0.00444334 (GA)? (GA=gestational weeks). Predicted abdominal circumfer ence values for a given gestational week were determined and presented in tabular form. This measurement may be useful as an adjunct in predicting menstrual age in cases in which the BPD is technically inadequate or impossible to obtain due to unusual position. Additionally, fetal abdominal circumferences are useful as ad juncts to evaluate fetal growth or fetal weight. (Thai J Obstet Gynaecol 1990;2: 81 86.)
