20 cases of laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomies
Main Article Content
Abstract
Laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomies appear to have significant benefits for
patients in terms of hospitalization and recovery. However, this new technique is not widely
practiced since many doctors are inadequately trained for it, and its costs to the patient are
about double those of more traditional techniques. This article describes experiences in
performing laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomies on 20 patients over a 5-year period
(1996-2000). The surgical procedures, outcomes, advantages and disadvantages, safety, and
complications of the technique will be discussed. It is anticipated that these experiences can
be used as a qualitative measure for further improvement.
