Factors related to plastic waste sorting of people in Ban Tha Rae area, Kaeng Loengchan Sub-district, Mueang Maha Sarakham District, Maha Sarakham Province

Abstract

The objectives of this survey research were to study the level of knowledge, attitude and practice in plastic waste sorting of the people and to study the factors related to the plastic waste sorting of the people in Ban Tha Rae area, Kaeng Loengchan Subdistrict, Mueang Maha Sarakham District, Maha Sarakham Province. The population was 3,085 people with a sample size of 230 people calculated by simple random sampling and a questionnaire was used as a research instrument for data collection.  The study period was from March 2022 to December 2022 and the data were analyzed by descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean, standard deviation, maximum, minimum and inferential statistics such as Pearson correlation coefficient.
The results of the study revealed that people had a moderate level of knowledge about plastic waste sorting with a mean score of 6.52 (S.D. = 0.59). Attitude about plastic waste sorting was at agreeing level with a mean score of 2.71 (S.D.=0.40) and there was some practice about plastic waste sorting with a mean score of 2.14 (S.D.=0.48). The results of the study of factors related to plastic waste sorting of people found that age, knowledge factors, attitude factors, practice factors had a statistically significant correlation with plastic waste sorting at the level of 0.05
Therefore, people should realize the importance and awareness of plastic waste sorting, including correct practices by the community and relevant agencies. There should be continuous activities to promote plastic waste sorting campaigns, form appropriate waste management guidelines as a guideline for good practice regarding plastic waste sorting in the community in the future.
