Antimicrobial residue in meats causes negative effects to consumer especially antimicrobial resistance which is public health problem worldwide. The research aims to study a performance of the test kit that has been developed using microbial inhibition assay. The test kit had Limit of Detection (LOD) for tetracyclines at 400 μg/kg. One hundred-fifty meat samples that sold in Chiang Mai province were tested and 8 (5.33%) samples showed positive result which was concordant to CM®test and discordant to Premi®test. Drug concentration of positive samples were analysed using High performance liquid chromatography. Two samples were found a combination of drug residues including oxytetracycline with chlortetracycline and tetracycline with oxytetracycline at 141, 128, 154, and 145 μg/kg respectively. The test kit can be applied for screening of tetracyclines in meats under the limit of detection as mentioned. It is not expensive and do not require a complicated protocol. Furthermore, this study showed a situation of antimicrobial residue in meats which identified risk to human and needs recognition and collaboration from every stakeholder for solutions.
