Abstract

Objectives: (1) To explore current situation and problems of learning and teaching occurred in First Aid course, (2) To develop a model of cooperative learning techniques using friend relationship peer assisted learning in First Aid course, and (3) To evaluate the satisfaction of students were the first year students of Diploma of Medical Audio- Visual Education Program toward the model technique.
Methods: Forty-two samples were purposively selected. Four phases were separated in this study. Phase I: Preparation to develop a model technique, phase II a model technique development, phase III: application, and phase IV: evaluation. Data were collected by focus group discussion and questionnaire to evaluate the satisfaction of learners. Content analysis, descriptive statistics and Pair t-test was used in this study.
Results: The findings were indicated that the model techniques of learning and teaching consisted of four steps. (1) Step I: Group was a group sharing and working process, (2) Step II: Learn was a learning process from media that learners were keen (called expert group), (3) Step III: Share was a learning exchange process after the learning process, and (4) Step IV: Do was the learners were assigned as a group to do role play and record the show in video. The outcome after using the model technique was presented; (1) Achievement test comparison, pretest and posttest score were significantly different at a level of 0.05, (2) Assessment score of all needed skills based on desirable graduate qualifications was highest level (μ = 4.61), and (3) Satisfaction score on the learning and teaching model technique was at high level (μ = 4.09).
