This quasi-experimental research aimed to assess the achievement of practical learning through electronic media in maternal health promotion among 2nd-year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Public Health program in Community Public Health. The study was conducted in the Holistic Health Promotion course. The sample consisted of 108 students, divided into experimental and comparison groups of 54 each. The grouping was randomized based on student ID numbers. The experimental group was assessed using video recordings of actual practice based on specified criteria, which were submitted to instructors for evaluation. In contrast, the comparison group was assessed through face-to-face evaluation by instructors. Research instruments included instructional materials, a knowledge test, a practical skill assessment form, and a satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and independent t-test.
Results showed a statistically significant increase in post-test knowledge scores in both groups (p < .001). When comparing two groups, the experimental group had significantly higher scores in practical skills (28.07 ± 0.93 points) and satisfaction (57.70 ± 1.99 points) than the comparison group (25.23 ± 1.40 and 48.01 ± 1.83 points) (p < .001). In conclusion, the practical learning assessment system via electronic media is an effective approach that enhances learning outcomes, practical skills, and student satisfaction significantly. These findings can serve as a guideline for developing electronic media-based assessment systems for practical learning. Educational institutions are encouraged to adopt this model in the evaluation of other practice-based courses, support the development of effective instructional media and assessment systems, and conduct further research on its long-term effects and applicability in various educational contexts.
