Abstract

The objective of this quasi-experimental research was to examine the effect of self-efficacy program on safety performance among charge nurses. The sample were charge nurses working at the In-patient department of private hospitals. There were 30 charge nurses in each experimental and control group. The research instruments were the promoting safety self-efficacy program, and a questionnaire on safety performance. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and independent t-test.

The research results revealed that after receiving promoting safety self-efficacy program, mean scores of safety performance in the experimental group was at a high level (x ̅  = 4.47, SD = 0.34) and the control group was at a moderate level (x ̅  = 3.47, SD = 0.52). Mean scores of safety performance in the experimental group was significantly higher than in the control group (p < .05). Also, mean scores of safety performance in the experimental group after receiving the program was significantly higher than before receiving the program (p < .05). The results indicated that the promoting safety self-efficacy program can improve the performance of charge nurses. Therefore, administrators should apply the safety promotion programs to enhance safety performance.
