Nursing Informatics and Digital Competencies of First-line Nurse Managers in Tertiary Level Hospitals.

Abstract

          The study findings revealed that the nursing informatics and digital competencies of first-line nurse managers in tertiary hospitals were categorized into three core competencies and 46 sub-competencies as follows. 1) The computer skills composed of 18 sub-competencies, and was further classified into two sub-skills, which included the skills in basic software applications related to nursing administration (7 items) and the skills in advanced software applications related to nursing administration (11 items). 2) The information science skills composed of 17 sub-competencies and was further classified into two sub-skills that included the information science competencies (6 sub-competencies) and information science knowledge (11 sub-competencies), and 3) The nursing informatics skills composed of 11 sub-competencies. These findings will provide guidelines for developing, supporting, and promoting the first-line nurse managers in tertiary hospitals to gain more knowledge and experience to meet the nursing informatics standards and digital competencies. In addition, this research results serve as a guide for developing tools to evaluate the nursing informatics and digital performance in first-line nurse managers.
