Abstract

     This quasi-experimental research aimed to determine the effect of a blended learning program with a pretest and posttest to compare the level of; self-efficacy, ability to perioperative nursing techniques, and clinical decision-making of undergraduate nursing students. The sample is a cohort of 80 3rd year nursing students practicing perioperative nursing from one educational institution, selected according to inclusion criteria and simple random sampling. The blended learning program includes case study analysis, perioperative nursing techniques, intra-operative nursing practice through simulation–based learning, and self-directed study for 7 days. Data collection, instruments were an assessment questionnaire: self-efficacy, ability to perioperative nursing techniques, and clinical decision-making. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and Dependent t-test.

     The results showed that after participating in the program, the sample group’s had an average scores were higher than before joining the program, and that significant differences between pretest and posttest were self-efficacy, ability to perioperative nursing techniques; surgical draping and clinical decision-making. (t = -6.992, p < .001; t = -4.011, p < .001;

t = -11.381, p < .001.) Although the average scores of ability to perioperative nursing techniques in skin preparation, was higher than before joining the program that it was not statistically significant. (t = -0.877, p > .05).

Conclusion and suggestion Blended learning model should be used in the nursing practicum subjects before practicing on the ward.
