Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to examine factors predicting health preparation for aging society among community-dwelling people. A simple random sampling technique was used to recruit 147 people who lived in communities of Wangchan district, Rayong province.  Research instruments included self-report questionnaires of a demographic, the health status, the attitude towards aging, the perceived self-efficacy, the social support, and the health preparation for aging society. Descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data.

The results revealed that health preparation for aging society among community-dwelling people was at a good level (M = 3.78, SD = .39). The significant predictors of health preparation for aging society among community-dwelling people were having elderly people in the family (b = .474), attitude towards aging (b = .188), perceived self-efficacy (b = .268), social support (b = .129), and health status (b = .110). These predictors explained 64.1 % of variance in health preparation for aging society among community-dwelling people (R2 = .641, p<.001). These findings suggest that nurses and related health care providers should utilize the findings to develop an intervention or program to promote health preparation for aging society among community-dwelling people by focusing on attitude towards aging, perceived self-efficacy, social support, and health status.
