A Retrospective study: the Incidence of Complications in Patients under General Anesthesia Sichon Hospital, Nakhon Si Thammarat

Abstract

The retrospective study was aimed to review the incidence of complications in patients under general anesthesia at Sichon Hospital, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The data collection was undertaken by retrospective chart review of patients who had experienced under general anesthesia from October 1st 2016 to September 30th 2017 with the number of patients totally 2,589. The purposive sampling technique was applied for selecting patient’s document and all data of the study were reported as frequency, percentage and complication rate per 10000 people.The study result was found that 2,589 of patients who underwent general anesthesia had complications of anesthesia amount 431 patients as 16.65 percentages. Most of patients were women as 61.7 percentages.There were 67.7 percentages of patients with a mild systemic diease (ASA status II). The significant method that highly induce anesthesia complications was sedated patients by using endotracheal tube which reported as 93.7 percentages. The complications of anesthesia, patients mostly got such effects on day shift around 65 percentages and most of patient was an elective case with the percentage of 87.16. The surgical department was a top of all hospital units which reported the highest number of patients with aneathesia complications totally 36.5 percentages and orthopedic department was followed as 35 percentages. Moreover, the study also found that the time between 24 and 72 hours as a ratio of 683.66 per 10,000. From the high number of that ratio, It could be explianed in more detail that the incidence rate of complication due to cardiovascular system affecting from anesthesia had found often during the operation time as a ratio around 351.39 per 10,000
