The Study of Breast Cancer Patients Treated at Takuapa Hospital 8 years experience

Abstract

               To determine the age, symptoms, risk factors, time interval before seeking medical attention, staging, lymph node metastasis,expression of tumor marker,recurrent rate and 5 - year survival rate in breast cancer at Takuapa Hospital.This is a retrospective descriptive study. The author reviewed medical records of all breast cancer patients treated at Takuapa Hospital from January 2007 to December 2014. During the study period, 92 breast cancer patients
were treated at Takuapa Hospital. All patients were female. The common age group was 41-50 years old (33 patients, 35.87%). Nobody had maternal relative of breast cancer. Most patients (78 patients, 84.78%) sought medical attention because of palpable mass.The mass was found almost equally in both sides with predominantly in upper outer quadrant.Fifteen patients (16.30%) sought medical care later than 3 months after palpating the mass. Most patients (27patients, 29.35%) sought medical care in stage 2A. Regional lymph node metastasis were found most in patient under 40 years old. The 5-year survival rate was 100% for stage I, 100% for stage II A, 83.33% for stage II B and The overall 5-year survival rate was 73.68%. Conclusion ,Most breast cancer patients treated at Takuapa Hospital were 41- 50 years of age.There was no correlation with previously described risk factors. The most presenting symptom was palpable mass. Predominantly, the mass was found in upper outer quadrant.Large mass tend to have regional lymph node metastasis. Large mass and more regional lymph node metastasis tend to have high recurrent rate.The overall 5-year survival rate was 73.68%
