Anti-wrinkle Effect of Facial Acupuncture

Facial acupuncture has been proposed that it can stimulate new collagen production thus decrease the skin wrinkles. To our knowledge, there is no clinical study to prove this postulation. The aim of this study is to evaluated anti-wrinkle effect and safety of facial acupuncture. Thirty Thai females who had wrinkles grade 1-3 were included. They were divided into acupuncture group and placebo group. The peri-orbital wrinkles improvement were observed in 5th week (37.9%) with statistically significance (p=0.035). There was no significance change in 8th and 12th week. The forehead wrinkles were no significance difference all three periods. All patients were satisfied. After each treatment, some patients had mild local erythema and pinpoint bleeding. Five in 20 patients had purpura. Most of the patients (95%) experienced mild to moderate degree of pain at the punctured sites
