The Effectiveness of 0.1% Estriol Cream on Aging Skin in Postmenopausal Women, A Randomized Double-blind Placebo Control Trial

Aging is associated with declining levels of estrogen. Hormonal replacement therapy is known to benefit in this condition, but carries many side effects. Topical estrogen, especially estriol form, is safer. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of 0.1% estriol cream on aging skin in postmenopausal women. In 6 months trial, 34 postmenopausal women, received 0.1% estriol cream or placebo cream twice per day based on random assignment. Efficacy was evaluated by visioscan VC98 for wrinkles, corneometer for humidity, cutometer for elasticity. In summary, treatment with 0.1% estriol cream has been shown to decrease wrinkles, increased humidity and elasticity in postmenopaisal women, when compared with placebo.
