Xanthoma

Abstract

Xanthoma is the abnormal deposition of lipid in the macrophage of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, tendon and epiosteum. Different xanthomatosis types including eruptive, tuberous, planus and tendinous xanthoma are frequently represent the particular lipoprotein disorders. Pathophysiology of lipid transportation, processing and catabolism are now well established. The classifications of hyperlipidemia cause great confusion, they can be based on clinical assessment (genetic and plasma lipids levels), lipoprotein phenotypes (Fredrickson classification) or etiology classification (primary and secondary hyperlipidemia). Xanthoma may be the first present symptom in the dermatology clinics so dermatologists are the first who recognize these lipid disorders which represent the most common lifethreatened disease in the modern world.
