STATE ANXIETY OF ATHLETES UNDER THE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR SPORTS HERO, REGION 5 PARTICIPATING AT THE 34TH NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES IN NAN PROVINCE

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to study and compare the levels of state anxiety of athletes under the sports development project for Sports Hero, Region 5, participating at the 34th National Youth Games in Nan Province. The population of this research were 206 athletes: 107 males and 99 females under Sports Hero project, Region 5. Data were collected by using a Revised Competitive Sport Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2R) (Cox; Martens; & Russell, 2003) and an interview form, the content validity of which was verified by a panel of experts. The data were analyzed by frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Scheffe’s method was used to evaluate the paired differences, The significant difference was set at .05 level.
The findings revealed as follows: The state anxiety of athletes under Sports Development Project for Sports Hero, Region 5, indicated the somatic anxiety was found at a low level, ( =19.45) while the cognitive anxiety and the self-confidence were found at a moderate level. ( =22.50 and 23.29 respectively)
In three groups of sports, no significant differences were found in cognitive anxiety and self-confidence but significant differences were found in somatic anxiety at the level of .05 In addition, significant differences of somatic anxiety were found between the scoring and the statistical sports groups at the level of .05 while no significant differences of somatic anxiety were found between the fighting and the scoring sports groups and between the statistically and the fighting sports groups.
