SPORT CITY ORGANIZATION GUIDELINES FOR TOURISM AND RECREATION: CASE STUDY OF KHON KAEN MUNICIPALITY

Abstract
Sport tourism is the pattern of travelling that aims to have contribution to sports activities in different ways both direct and indirect ways. Sports city progress for travelling and recreation will be able to help economic and social development including supports to change the city image which is the advantage of population who live in the society and the people who travel for sport tourism. Khon Kaen Municipality has potential for location - based readiness, organizations that support sports and sports personnel such as athlete, trainer, the venue for holding the sports events, and the national important people about sports. These can promote the Khon Kaen Municipality to be able to improve the city into a sport city.
This study was a qualitative research using a qualitative methodology to collect the data from a group of respondents; 1) study from documents and 2) in - depth interview. The selected total samples were 9 groups, a total of 11 people. The researcher required information from participants within Khon Kaen Municipality both public and private sectors and people’s representatives.
The result of the research from the literature review and participants’ interviews was found that the City Administrators, Government Agencies, Provincial Administrative Organization, Member of Representatives, and Private Sector, in part of decision-making authoritarian to develop the provincial strategy plan and strategic plan for designing policies about sports or under national sports development plan was not assigned in the provincial development plan. Therefore, the suggestion for establishment of a sports city was to specify the policies for all sectors to participate or support to promote the sport tourism which produced the development guidelines for organizing a sports city and the future city development plan in sports field.
