Abstract

This research was conducted to study the factors influencing fencers' return to participate in a sanctioned fencing competition in Thailand. The population in this research included 120 fencers who had participated in four or more competitions, and had competition scores. The 100 samples were used in this research, obtained by using the Taro Yamane’s sample size calculation under the finite population (Yamane, 1973). The instrument used for data collection was a set of questionnaires to assess the importance of each factor influencing fencer’s return to participate in a fencing competition. The statistics used for data analysis consisted of frequency distribution, percentage, and multiple regression analysis; with a significance level of .05.

The findings indicated that internal motivation, place, distribution channel, and promotion could explain the variance in regular participation for returning to participate in a sanctioned fencing competitions in Thailand at 17.8% (Adjust R Square = 0.178). Thus, it could be concluded that internal motivation, place, distribution channel, and promotion were significantly related to fencer’s return to participate in sanctioned fencing competitions in Thailand at the level of .05.
